Mêda Municipality
Mêda (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈmeðɐ]) is a municipality in Portugal with a total area of 286.1 km2 (110 sq mi) and a total population of 6,000 inhabitants. The city of Mêda has a population of 2,004.[1] It was promoted to city in December 2004.
Municipality
The municipality is composed of 16 parishes, and is located in Guarda District, Centro Region, Beira Interior Norte Subregion.
The present Mayor is João Germano Mourato Leal Pinto, elected by the Social Democratic Party. Main monument:Marialva Castle/Castelo de Marialva.Also nearby in the municipalities of Foz Coa and Pinhel is the: Parque Arqueologico do Vale do Coa,(Coa Valley,a World Heritage sight/ Coa Valley pre-historic rupestre art archaeological site. The municipal holiday is November 11.
